ORIGIN
Brooklyn native Pop Smoke was an up-and-coming rapper most notably for his presence on the drill scene. Hit breakout single “Welcome to the Party” received heavy rotation on radio and streaming platforms. Other standout tracks include “Meet the Woo”, “MPR”, “Flexing” and “Dior.” Signed to Victor Victor/Republic Records, his highly anticipated mixtape, Meet The Woo, dropped in Summer 2019. Pop Smoke was associated with fellow rising Brooklyn Rapper Jay Gwuapo. Since his debut, he’s collaborated with big names like Nicki Minaj and YG. He’s also received support from acts like Rich The Kid, and Pusha T.
Pop Smoke was born Bashar Jackson on July 20, 1999, in Brooklyn, New York. He hailed from the residential neighborhood of Canarsie. Growing up, he had nicknames such as “Poppa” and “Smoke Oh Guap.” His moniker “Pop Smoke” was coined by fusing those two names together. Jackson grew up listening to artists like 50 Cent, DMX and Lloyd Banks. Outside of music, he had hopes of someday opening different businesses throughout Brooklyn.
CAREER
Prior to his own rap career, Pop Smoke would hit up the studio with local acts like Jay Gwuapo. It was only natural that he would figure out a way to get some bars in. His first track “MPR” (Money, Power, Respect) arrived in December 2018. MPR is a remix of “Panic, Pt. 3”, originally by Sheff G, Sleepy Hallow and Fresh G. The accompanying visual has 4+ million views on YouTube. It was shot by V.Lens. Pop Smoke kicked off 2019 with his next track “Flexing.” He followed up with “Meet the Woo” in April 2019. The latter was produced by 808Melo. The supporting music video was shot and directed GoddyGoddy. It has 6.5+ million views.
In May 2019, Pop Smoke dropped his hit track “Welcome to the Party”, also produced by 808Melo. He made the song in 30 minutes at his crib in Brooklyn. It attracted more than 10 million hits across SoundCloud and YouTube in under 2 months. Welcome to the Party has already sparked 2 official remixes. The first featured Nicki Minaj and YG. Rapper Rico Nasty premiered her “NastyMix” version via her YouTube channel. In July 2019, Pop Smoke performed alongside Pusha T at the Best Day Ever festival in Coney Island, Brooklyn. He’s also performed at such venues as the Amazura nightclub in Queens, New York.
Pop Smoke was signed to Victor Victor/Republic Records. His debut mixtape, Welcome to the Woo, was released commercially on July 26, 2019. The tape is available on all major streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and Tidal. In addition to “Meet the Woo” and “Welcome to the Party”, the tape includes tracks like “Dior”, “Scenario” and “Hawk Em.” The project was produced entirely by 808Melo and his Trap House Mob.
