A pair of 3-year-old twins are dead after they were found unresponsive in a vehicle while their mother jumped from a Miami overpass.

The Miami-Dade Police Department said they responded Friday morning to a medical emergency call for both children, identified as Milendhet and Milendhere Napoleon-Cadet, who were found unresponsive.

When officers arrived, they found the twin's mom, 42-year-old Shirlene Napoleon Alcime, "jumped over the expressway wall, fell from a considerable height and landed on the railroad tracks," according to police.

The twins were taken to a nearby hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and their mom was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in critical condition, police noted.

Both children were pronounced dead at the hospital and a cause of death has not been released.

The investigation into the toddlers' deaths and the mother's suicide attempt are ongoing.
